The medical community tells us, usually via dieticians, that we should exercise for 150 minutes a week.
Then they tell us walking is exercise.
Hey, it is and it isn’t.
For those of us that got “out of shape” ( BTW round is still a shape) walking can impose great difficulty.
It really shouldn’t. We are designed to walk all day and then some.
If walking is exercise to you- then so be it.
I’m not here to judge you, or anyone else.
I’m here to judge me. And help give you insight, when and where I can.
All I can say, is, the goal is to get as much movement in as you possibly can.
You can start by walking 5 minutes a day. Then 5 minutes twice a day. Then 3 times a day.
Then add 5 minutes to each session.
At your discretion.
Once you are comfortable doing 15 minutes 3x per day, you will find it easy to do 30 minutes once per day. Along with a random 15 minute walk.
Eventually you will be comfortable doing 45 minutes and 15.
Now? When you are at that point? And comfortable- you can now do an hour a day in one shot.
You may say, who has an hour every day?
Hey, you get busy living or stay busy dying.
If you do use a gym, here is where you get your time back .
Up the incline and speed.
I’m not telling you to run.
But 30 minutes on level 5 is going to beat an hour on level 1. And 15 minutes on level 15 is going to trump that.
Now you are starting to do strenuous exercise, and will be able to afford to add time to do other things
It took me 3 years to get my routine down, and a pandemic forced me out of the gym.
I’m not walking outside in minus 5 degree winter weather.
I do it because I owe it to myself. I owe myself that hour. I’m writing this at 1139 pm from the gym.
I was up at 7 this morning. And I was tired and wanted to stay home. Not an option. I missed yesterday because I worked a 14 hour day.
I don’t need to work 14 hours a day. But I honor my commitments. And I owe myself at least 5 hours a week at the gym.
Regardless of work. I’ll quit work before I quit moving.
Feeling this good feels like it should be illegal.
300 minutes a week beats 150.
I can’t wait to see what I look and feel like next summer, I am supposed to be dead, lol.
